SUMMARY To perform the technical functions of dispensing prescriptions and participate in the maintenance and operations of the Pharmacy as described by the Pharmacy Standards of Practice, and to provide superior, timely, and pleasant service to customers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Customer Service Greet patient and gather prescription information according to Pharmacy Standards of Practice Perform duties in priority according to Role assigned on Role Assignment Schedule Refer to the pharmacist all inquiries related to medication purpose, use and recommendations (including prescriptions, OTC's, and restricted sale products); diseases and conditions; professional fees; and other inquiries as required by law or company policy Set realistic customer expectations as to wait times and effectively communicate the time to the customer Locate and cash out prescriptions and any ancillary items, according to Pharmacy Standards of Practice Provide accurate information in response to customer inquiries (e.g. store policies, Optimum), according to Standards of Practice. Resolve customer issues according to established standards, ensuring appropriate intervention by the pharmacist Draw customer attention to literature or information as required (e.g. Med Ready Brochure) Ensure customers requiring counseling (OTC or Rx as defined by operating standards and/or legal policies) are referred to the pharmacist in a timely and appropriate manner. Maintain and control the cash register in the dispensary in accordance with cash handling policies and procedures. Ability to work flexible shifts which may include nights and weekends. Prescription Entry Accurately enter and maintain appropriate data within the HealthWATCH or HealthWATCH Next Generation System Adjudicate claim to Third Party payor in accordance with the Pharmacy Standards of Practice; Review and adjust third party adjudication records Resolve technical issues by contacting IT Service Desk or Third Party adjudicators as required Ensure prescriptions are prioritized correctly using Smart Queue and ready time. Prescription Filling Select medications for dispensing according to Pharmacy Standards of Practice Efficiently count or measure, package, and label prescriptions, as per Pharmacy Standards of Practice, ensuring all relevant information and documentation is presented to the pharmacist May be required to mix, reconstitute, or compound prescriptions, as directed and supervised by the pharmacist Gather all pertinent drug information and marketing communication pieces for inclusion with prescription Administration Answer telephone, ensuring that telephone etiquette is observed at all times Handle calls and incoming faxes according to Pharmacy Standards of Practice Assist pharmacist in coordinating callbacks. Contact physicians' offices as needed (e.g. for special authorization requests, prescription clarification, etc) and maintain all relevant documentation Accurately file completed prescriptions as per Pharmacy Standards of Practice, in a timely, organized manner Generate reports as required Prepare invoices where required Inventory Management Maintain proper storage of medications within the pharmacy according to 5S principles Ensure stock bottles are put away regularly throughout the work day May be required to perform inventory management, under the direction and supervision of the pharmacist Perform cycle counts as per Pharmacy Standards of Practice Ensure regular replenishment of pharmacy drugs and supplies Unpack and detail receive pharmacy totes inside pharmacy Ensure narcotic inventory is detail received and recorded Put away received pharmacy inventory in appropriate location, while ensuring stock rotation (category, alphabetical location, fridge, narcotic safe) Required to perform appropriate removal and return of expired products and recalls Management of dedicated supplier products (DSPs) General/Other Provide support and assistance to the pharmacist(s) as required, ultimately with a view to enhancing the pharmacist/customer relationship Maintain professional image (dress code) and conduct at all times as per Pharmacy Standards of Practice Ensure standards of housekeeping and cleanliness are maintained within the pharmacy area as per Pharmacy Standards of Practice Promote Shoppers Drug Mart/HealthWATCH Marketing Programs as required Regularly read or view communication vehicles as outlined by Associate (e.g. ISW, Communication Binder, Communication Board) Learn and make use of all HealthWATCH or HealthWATCH Next Generation functionality Ensure all security, safety and confidentiality measures are performed according to Pharmacy Standards of Practice Adhere to all legal requirements, including the Privacy Act, Food and Drug Act, Health and Safety Act Ensure all loss prevention systems and procedures are performed according to established standards. Willingness to learn (all available online training should be completed) and open to change (receptive to new procedures and standards as they become introduced) High level of accuracy and diligence in all activities performed
