Reporting to the Vice President, Finance & Corporate Services, you will join CMH as we embrace a new era of care, expanded services and innovation. Construction is underway of a modern 5-storey tower and total renovation of all existing inpatient care and clinical support areas. Upon completion, our new hospital  will contain:

  • Patient care areas that are doubling in size, including larger surgical suites to accommodate advanced minimally invasive surgical equipment and an Emergency Department with dedicated treatment areas for mental health and different surgical subspecialties

  • A patient-centred building design that promotes healing and intuitive wayfinding, while maximizing natural lighting and sight lines to the natural beauty of the Grand River

  • An increase in beds from 143 to 197 to accommodate expanded services like Surgery, Mental Health and Intensive Care. About 80% of inpatient rooms will be single occupancy to meet the latest infection control and building code standards for hospitals



Job Description


The Director, Pharmacy is responsible for all aspects of Pharmacy operations, the provision of quality patient care services, and ensuring the delivery of patient-centered care within a patient and medication safety focused environment. Utilizing demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills, the Director will focus on strategic planning, quality and performance improvement, medication best practice, legislative/regulatory compliance and professional standards of practice as a means to ensure service delivery remains leading-edge and patient focused. The Director will also provide leadership to a multi-disciplinary team of professionals within the program fostering an environment of learning and individual growth.


Major Responsibilities 

  • Responsible for the overall operation of the Pharmacy department;
  • Ensure hospital wide medication distribution system and policies and procedures are current and reflective of best practice
  • Provide leadership and oversight for patient experience, quality, risk and safety within the program area
  • Promote, enforce and ensure hospital wide safe medication practices and cost efficient drug utilization management in partnership with other Managers, Directors and Physicians
  • Contribute to Corporate planning, projects, policy setting, and quality improvement activities
  • Oversee human resource management including performance management
  • Oversight of financial management including budget development (capital and operating) and accountability for departmental budget and variance analysis
  • Ensure that all relevant quality control and quality assurance programs have been established and maintained to assure the quality of medication related processes throughout the Hospital
  • Develop and implement strategies to ensure compliance with all relevant, federal, provincial and professional standards, regulatory and accreditation requirements and industry best practice

 Skills and Qualifications 

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy
  • Licensed to practice in Ontario and registered in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP)
  • Masters Degree in Health Administration, Business or other related field, preferred
  • Eight (8) to ten (10) years of progressive management experience in an acute care hospital Pharmacy department
  • Committed to continuous professional growth and excellence in Pharmacy service delivery
  • Demonstrated experience managing operations, people and applying financial management skills
  • Ability to develop self and others through coaching, mentoring and formal processes
  • Shared leadership skills with the ability to foster collaboration and shared direction among diverse clinical and non-clinical groups
  • Well-developed negotiation and conflict management/resolution skills
  • Effective change management skills
  • Demonstrated behaviours supporting CMH’s Core Values of Caring, Accountability, Innovation Respect, and Collaboration
  • An excellent knowledge of Meditech pharmacy computer system is preferred
  • Highly motivated with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis is required
